about us

The Stalley Family has over 50 years of experience in the sport of Endurance Riding. They founded the Cache Creek Ridge Ride in 2009.

The course takes place on BLM land near the junction of Highways 16 and 20 (18 miles west of Williams, CA). Ride Camp is located at the Cowboy Camp campground.

The event hosts a 12 mile Intro Ride, 25 and 50 mile AERC sanctioned endurance rides, and Short (12 mile) and Long Course (25 mile) Ride and Tie Events.

For more information about the sport, you can visit AERC.org and RideandTie.org.

Volunteer

Volunteers are the life blood of the sport. This sport could not exist without the support of many many volunteers (both horsey and non-horsey).

The ride needs volunteers of all skills in order to operate. Please reach out via the Volunteer Form and we can find something interesting and fun for you.

The trail

The trail is well maintained with beautiful footing. You will experience vistas from the ridge of surrounding mountains and of Bear Creek and Cache Creek. It is challenging and the weather can be hot. There are creek crossings periodically along the trail depending on the amount of spring rain. We have had a wet spring, so feel free to water or cool your horse in the abundant ponds. Ride Management, i.e. Chuck Stalley and his hard-working trail crew including Greg King and Tony Benedetti, haul water into the middle of the ranch to fill the troughs at key intersections and along the trail, but it is critical that you are only using the water for drinking and do not splash or drench your horses.

There are three out vet checks on the 50 mile ride–the first is at the Confluence (crews are not allowed here), light snacks for the 50 milers a one hour hold at High Bridge, and the last check is out at Judge Davis.

The 25 mile ride / R&T Long Course has one out vet check at Judge Davis. Light snacks and drinks are provided for riders. Hay, carrots, and mash are provided for horses.  Pulse & Go, there is no hold time for Ride & Tie; one team member needs to be present to pulse the horse and show for the veterinary exam.

The intro ride / R&T Short Course is 12 miles long; it starts and ends in camp. There is one number taker on the loop to track your progress. Always state your number loudly and clearly.
